DERELIKT is set in Saturn’s orbit, but it is not an open-plan space adventure. It is a claustrophobic research station, a failing industrial system and an organic interior that should not be there. The story is about the people who stayed — and whatever was already inside the rock.
The premise
The developer’s itch.io page starts with the hook: the carcass of a gigantic creature was discovered in orbit around Saturn. You were hired as a one-person expedition to investigate. A research outpost had been grafted onto its exterior years before. The resident scientists seem nervous, paranoid, and full of stories about “the old song.”
The PlayStation.Blog adds the mission detail: you arrive as an outside contractor to find out the fate of Excavation Team Delta, who went missing on the derelict surface. Systems are failing, survivors have conflicting accounts, and a mysterious drone is driving the crew toward a breaking point.

Von Neumann Outpost
The outpost is a working research facility with corridors, labs, maintenance shafts and crew quarters. It is not a pristine spaceship. The halls are dark, systems are failing, and the industrial spaces blend into something biological as you descend.
Official screenshots show a checkerboard lobby, cramped machinery rooms, specimen tanks, a crew lounge and a service elevator descending into a red-lit organic mass. The station’s design deliberately mixes late-90s corporate sci-fi with the wet, impossible architecture of a creature’s interior.

Twelve levels, one station, a way back
GOG’s official feature list gives the clearest structural fact: 12 levels in and around the dark space outpost, with subtle “Metroidvania” progression. New equipment unlocks previously inaccessible routes and encourages backtracking.
That means the correct mental model is not “12 linear missions.” It is a connected station that reveals itself in layers. The official descriptions name corridors, labs, maintenance shafts and crew quarters, but no individual level names.
People and trust
The outpost is full of people who have been isolated too long. Over a dozen NPCs remain, each with their own secrets and version of events. The official feature list says some are useful, some dangerous, some doomed, and most are all three.
Four names are confirmed in official screenshots: Dr. Vloonikov, Louis Hartman, Peter Conrad and Julie Collier. Their dialogue is part of the evidence — not a separate codex entry. The character file records what each one actually says.
The old song and the thing in the rock
The itch.io description offers the most suggestive line in the public material: speaking to the scientists reveals strange tales of “the old song” worming its way into their heads. The PlayStation.Blog adds a mysterious drone and the descent into the ancient bone structure.
What is “the old song”? The record does not say. It could be a signal, a biological memory, a cult, a hallucination or something else. The site will not pretend the ambiguity is a solved plot point.
